Specialist Mentor AS

As an AS Mentor, I provide tailored one to one support to individuals with Autism or Asperger’s who are in receipt of Disabled Students Allowance.

I have been working as an AS Mentor since 2016. I am a registered provider and qualified to the standards required by the Disabled Students Allowance Quality Assurance Group (DSA QAG).

What is AS Mentoring?

AS Mentors provide highly specialist and specifically tailored one to one support for students with Autism or Asperger’s, who are studying at HE level. The support helps them to identify various barriers to their learning. Support include addressing a range of issues, for example, coping with anxiety and stressful situations, dealing with concentration difficulties, managing activities and workload, prioritising workload and deadlines, motivational support and creating a suitable work-life balance.

As an AS Mentor I do not act as advocate or counsellor, my role is to help students recognise the barriers to learning created by a particular impairment and support them in developing strategies to address these barriers. For some students this support will need to be on-going while for others it might be gradually phased out or only be required at certain points in their course.
